It’s one of the most common—and important—questions we hear. The short answer? Yes, in certain cases it’s helpful and is changing how we diagnose and treat prostate cancer.
Modern prostate assessment often starts with a multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). This scan gives detailed images of the prostate and helps identify areas that may need closer attention.
The Benefits
- Can help detect aggressive cancers earlier
- Can avoid unnecessary biopsies in some cases
- Allows for more targeted, accurate biopsies when needed
- Helps to plan treatments such as focal therapy and robotic surgery
But, it’s not yet for everyone automatically
An MRI is usually recommended after an elevated PSA blood test— it’s not yet recommended as a blanket screening test.
MRI has transformed prostate cancer diagnostics—making the pathway more precise, less invasive, and more personalised.
